What NHC Is Monitoring
Northeastern Atlantic
NHC says a strong non-tropical area of low pressure is over the northeastern Atlantic, several hundred miles west-northwest of the coast of Portugal. It could acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics today or early Sunday while moving east-southeastward at 10 to 15 mph toward Portugal and northwestern Spain. The opportunity for development should end by Sunday night when the system encounters unfavorable environmental conditions.
- Formation chance through 48 hours: low—20 percent.
- Formation chance through 7 days: low—20 percent.
Central Subtropical Atlantic
NHC says a weak area of low pressure a few hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development, if any, is expected to be slow while it drifts westward through Sunday and then accelerates northward early next week.
- Formation chance through 48 hours: low—10 percent.
- Formation chance through 7 days: low—20 percent.
Eastern Tropical Atlantic
NHC says a tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa on Monday. An area of low pressure may form with the wave, and development will be possible while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic through the end of next week.
- Formation chance through 48 hours: low—near 0 percent.
- Formation chance through 7 days: low—30 percent.
Important: These percentages are formation probabilities, not probabilities of reaching Florida. NHC does not provide a Florida track or landfall forecast for any of these areas in this outlook.
What This Means for the Treasure Coast
For Port Saint Lucie, Jensen Beach, Fort Pierce, and Vero Beach, today’s outlook is a reason to stay aware—not a reason to assume a local storm is coming. The northeastern area is near Portugal, the central subtropical area is east-southeast of Bermuda, and the eastern tropical Atlantic area has not yet moved off Africa.
Conditions and probabilities can change between outlooks. Use NHC products for tropical development, and follow local emergency-management instructions if watches, warnings, or evacuation orders are issued.
Practical Hurricane-Season Tech Check
- Charge power banks and test the cables used by every household phone.
- Confirm important documents and irreplaceable photos have a backup that is not stored only on one computer.
- Save account-recovery details and critical contacts somewhere available during an internet outage.
- Enable emergency alerts on each phone and test a battery-powered weather radio.
- Review family, pet, medication, and evacuation plans before a storm threatens.
- Small businesses should test cloud backups, UPS batteries, remote-access procedures, and a simple staff communication plan.
